When a disruption in 340B revenue created a significant operating deficit, Prism Health needed to protect access to care while addressing growing financial uncertainty. By partnering with OCHIN, the federally qualified health center look-alike identified operational improvements that helped increase new-patient visit capacity by 60% and grow their patient reach by 43%.
Watch the video to see how Prism Health turned a financial challenge into an opportunity to strengthen operations, expand access to care and build long-term sustainability.
In the video, Carrie Samuels, chief growth officer at CAP Northwest and Prism Health, explains how the organization worked with OCHIN’s billing and revenue cycle services team to understand the drivers of their financial instability. Together, the teams assessed patient access, provider scheduling and operational performance to identify opportunities for improvement.
Prism Health redesigned waitlist processes, enhanced patient monitoring dashboards, and streamlined visit templates. Those changes increased new-patient visit capacity by 60% and expanded the total number of patients served by 43%, enabling Prism Health to provide care to 1,300 additional people in a single year.
“We are enabling all of these new people to experience life-changing medical care that they otherwise wouldn’t have the same sort of access to,” Samuels said. “It’s the whole point of why we’re here — to meet this mission, to provide people with an experience that will literally change their lives for the better.”
The improvements strengthened Prism Health’s financial performance through increased revenue generation while helping the organization serve more people. Samuels said the impact has endured.
“We were able to really set the clinic on this path to financial and operational sustainability in a beautiful way.”
Prism Health’s experience shows how data-informed operational improvements can help healthcare organizations expand access to care, strengthen resilience and deliver measurable impacts for their communities. Explore more member stories on the OCHIN blog.
