Throughout this ongoing public health crisis, the ability to expand OCHIN’s on-premise data center capacity to effectively meet our network’s growing need for IT support has been mission critical. With dedicated funding from Intel’s $50 million Pandemic Response Technology Initiative, OCHIN rapidly scaled to support 20,000 concurrent network users in the early months as the novel coronavirus spread.
Since COVID-19 first emerged in the U.S., OCHIN has worked hand-in-hand with clinics across our national network to ensure the right technical tools and support are available to providers on the frontlines, especially in the hardest hit and most underserved communities. We quickly built mobile applications and flexible EHR tools to assist hospitals and health authorities in managing COVID-19 patient overflow. And our team has helped roughly 74 percent of our member clinics to transform their previous in-person care delivery models with virtual visits in response to the pandemic—enabling access and continuity of care for more than 5 million active patients nationally. Intel’s funding paved the way to ensure our rapid response remained sustainable across our growing network of providers and care teams nationwide, who are working to combat the virus and deliver essential health care services in their communities.
“During this emergency we were proud to answer the call of our clinics and state agencies to serve patients in greatest need,” said OCHIN CEO Abby Sears. “We’re grateful that Intel answered our call for data center support from its COVID-19 technology initiative.”
