The OCHIN network was founded in 2000 to connect a handful of community health centers in Oregon through a shared electronic health record platform. More than two decades later, our commitment remains unwavering: We believe every care team should have access to the best technology and solutions to provide the highest standard of care.
What began as a spark of an idea has evolved into a powerful force, driving us toward the promise of good health and well‑being for everyone.
The OCHIN network is founded to connect a handful of community health centers in Oregon through a shared electronic health record platform.
OCHIN partners with Epic and begins tailoring an EHR platform to support the unique needs of community-based health care providers and the rural and medically underserved people in their care.
OCHIN implements Epic for practice management, enabling greater operational efficiency and enhanced patient care across its network of health centers.
OCHIN created the Learning Forum to provide members an opportunity to connect and share knowledge and best practices to accelerate improvement and collective impact across the OCHIN network.
OCHIN implements the first instance of the OCHIN Epic EMR in its network to help expand access to high quality, coordinated care in rural and medically underserved communities. This year, OCHIN also expanded its network beyond Oregon with its first member in California.
OCHIN launches the Practice-Based Research Network, laying the foundation to become a national leader in improving health outcomes and examining health policy impact.
OCHIN establishes its HRSA-funded Health Center Controlled Network to provide Federally Qualified Health Centers no-cost support to enhance clinical quality, patient-centered care, and provider and staff well-being.
The OCHIN-led ADVANCE Clinical Research Network, part of PCORnet, is established to improve patient outcomes through research. The ADVANCE Data Warehouse becomes the country's most comprehensive database for the study of health care and outcomes.
OCHIN expands its suite of knowledge solutions and services to help enhance clinical quality for better patient outcomes and support greater operational efficiency and financial sustainability. OCHIN also expands its advocacy efforts to amplify the voice of its network members and drive meaningful policies at the state and federal levels to support community-based health care.
OCHIN becomes the largest Health Center Controlled Network in the United States, helping participating health centers optimize their use of health information technology to improve efficiency, enhance interoperability, support provider and staff well-being, and foster patient-centered care.
OCHIN network members found creative solutions to care for their communities on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic – including through the rapid expansion of telehealth capabilities to increase access to primary and specialty care.
OCHIN begins offering learning opportunities through its OCHIN+ workforce development program to rebuild and strengthen the health care workforce and create new career paths with skilled training and recruitment.
OCHIN launches its acute care service line to ensure hospitals in rural and medically underserved communities can seamlessly connect care for their patients with tailored solutions that put their local needs first.
OCHIN helps members pioneer new ways to achieve operational and financial wellness, support clinician well-being, and enhance clinical quality to achieve good health and well-being for all.
OCHIN has grown to support more than 300 community health care organizations and over 2,000 delivery sites through OCHIN Epic, improving access to whole-person care for more than 7.4 million people nationwide. As we commemorate OCHIN’s 25th anniversary, we are excited to showcase how these member organizations, along with many others, are expanding access, improving care delivery, and shaping the future of community health through the transformative power of their partnership.
OCHIN has been honored as one of the top nonprofits to work for in the U.S. by The NonProfit Times. The 2025 Best Nonprofits to Work For designation places OCHIN among 50 organizations recognized for championing a well-rounded work environment.
