Arwen Bunce is a medical anthropologist and qualitative research scientist at OCHIN. As the founder of OCHIN’s Qualitative Core for Iterative Research and Design, she designs and leads rigorous, pragmatic qualitative research that incorporates the lived experience of patients, clinicians and staff, increasing the integrity and usability of research findings.
Arwen has deep expertise in the intersection of contextualized care and health information technology, and in applying qualitative research methods to study practice change in community-based health centers. She is also interested in adapting traditional qualitative methods to meet the needs of evolving health care systems.
Before working with community health centers, Arwen conducted research and program evaluations in international and reproductive health for Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders, Family Health International and the U.S. Department of State. Her recent work uses realist evaluation to explore the impact of technology on providing and receiving care, with a focus on social and medical integration.
