OCHIN welcomes new research opportunities and partnerships. Please review our collaboration guidelines below before submitting your proposal, as the relevance and feasibility of each submission will be assessed in relation to OCHIN’s mission, priorities, and resources.
Once submitted, proposals are reviewed by OCHIN’s Scientific Oversight Committee and other organizational review committees to assess feasibility, fundability, and alignment with OCHIN’s mission. If approved, an OCHIN research development scientist will contact you to discuss the next steps.

Please note that OCHIN cannot provide specific data (e.g., disease conditions, demographics, etc.) relevant to a research question until a partner form is submitted and proposal development is approved.
Whenever possible, please provide a link to the specific Funding Opportunity Announcement. OCHIN typically does not partner on K or R21 opportunities.

OCHIN’s research department scientists have a consistent track record of securing millions of dollars annually in external grant funding from organizations such as the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI).
We are dedicated to conducting innovative, impactful research that engages health disparities communities. OCHIN researchers have produced more than 370 peer-reviewed publications on a variety of mental and physical health conditions, social risks, and health policies impacting populations historically underrepresented in biomedical research and communities served in community health organization settings.
We partner with other researchers and institutions in various ways, including providing access to deidentified EHR patient data, engaging with health center and community collaborators, supporting recruitment, and conducting both quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis. OCHIN‘s research department is equipped to support both data-only and intervention studies.
OCHIN has the nation’s most extensive data on primary care quality and outcomes in community health organizations. We maintain two main data warehouses—the OCHIN Research Data Warehouse and the ADVANCE Data Warehouse—fueling research and insights to benefit underserved patients and communities across the country. We also collaborate across several integrated networks and serve as a national data coordinating center to advance health equity research at scale.
As stewards of our members’ and partners’ patient data, we ensure its appropriate and responsible use. Accordingly, we actively participate in all aspects of the research in which we engage. We scope potential projects to ensure our services and staff are accurately represented. We purposefully do not operate solely as a data provider and prioritize scientific partnership.

Accelerating Data Value Across a National Community Health Center Network (ADVANCE) is a larger, PCORI-funded Clinical Research Network (CRN) led by OCHIN in partnership with Fenway Health, Health Choice Network, Oregon Health & Science University, and the University of Washington. It integrates outpatient EHR and community data for patients in community health organizations across the United States. It is the largest national dataset for people receiving care in community-based primary care settings, including federally qualified health centers, community health centers, and lookalike organizations.
