OCHIN has received a $2 million congressional appropriation to help bolster the health care workforce across Oregon by expanding technical training and launching new career opportunities for people interested in health information technology (HIT).
Championed by U.S. Senators Jeff Merkley and Ron Wyden of Oregon and U.S. Representative Suzanne Bonamici (OR-01), the U.S. Department of Labor funding will enable OCHIN to train upcoming electronic health records (EHR) support analysts and place them in roles at rural and community health organizations statewide. These technical positions are essential to ensuring high quality care, as well as patient and provider satisfaction.
“OCHIN is grateful to Senators Merkley and Wyden, and Representative Bonamici for their strong support in building Oregon’s health care workforce of the future,” said Jennifer Stoll, OCHIN’s chief external affairs officer, in a joint press release issued by the legislators. “Together, and with their leadership, OCHIN will continue to provide the health information technology skills training necessary to ensure sustainable access to care, while supporting job creation and growth in Oregon’s rural and underserved communities.”
OCHIN offers training and development opportunities for a wide variety of health careers nationwide—supporting clinics’ growing operations, improving access to whole patient care, and creating new career pathways for local communities.
