A driving force for health equity

OCHIN is the First Epic Customer to Achieve Gold Stars Level 10 in 2019

OCHIN is proud to announce that we are the first Epic customer to achieve Gold Stars Level 10 this year, and the third Epic customer in the history of this program to receive this award.  As the only organization to achieve Level 10 under the current requirements, this means that OCHIN members currently have access to more cutting-edge, Epic-recommended EMR functionality than any other Epic customer in the market.  As we continue to drive towards health equity, we are thrilled to provide such a premier product to OCHIN’s collaborative of Community Health Centers and Safety Net Clinics!

Epic’s Gold Stars Program provides a scorecard of how effectively an organization is using the system, and provides a roadmap for improving clinical and financial outcomes.  Gold Stars Level 10 reflects that OCHIN has adopted at least 95 percent of the Epic Gold Star features and is categorized as being a cutting-edge and leading practice in EMR use

Required items in this program, which align with OCHIN priorities, fall into the following focus areas:

  • Physician productivity and ease of use

  • Operating margin

  • Population health management

  • Patient experience and self-help

  • Epic analytics tool, Signal

  • Value from data

  • Nursing productivity

  • Patient access

  • Research

  • Quality and safety

  • Mobile

  • Community and affiliations

Some of the features that have been rolled out in support of this program include Happy Together, Hello Patient, SlicerDicer, Financial Pulse, Fast Pass, MyChart Video Visits, Clinical and Billing Cubes, Predictive Models, CEO and CFO Dashboards, and MyChart Paperless Statements.

In selecting which items to implement, OCHIN has a process in place to evaluate which features would benefit the collaborative and are in line with OCHIN’s strategic direction.  Using this process, OCHIN has increased its Gold Star ranking from Level 4 in April 2016 to Level 10 in 2019 by strategically rolling out enhancements via OCHIN’s release process (Service Packs and Enhancement Packs).

Thank you to the many team members involved in OCHIN’s collaborative effort to meet this year’s requirements, and especially to our members who provided support in bringing this achievement to fruition.
