In February 2018, OCHIN will debut a new Learning Management System (LMS) called Ella. Ella is a robust learning platform with features we’ve heard you say are most important to you, including:
- • Improved usability
- • Updated and searchable user documentation
- • Discussion forum functionality
- • Online training functionality (content coming in late 2018)
Improved usabilityElla’s streamlined look emphasizes content and simplifies navigation. The home page carousel highlights current events, and new documentation and courses. The collapsible left sidebar includes a link to the courses you are currently enrolled in, and a link to your personal Dashboard, which provides an overview of your course status (online training functionality coming in late 2018).
Updated and searchable user documentationElla’s Libraries contain all of OCHIN’s end user documentation, organized by hosted application (Epic, NextGen, and a general library for EHR-agnostic materials). Documentation (both written, step-by-step guides and demonstration videos) displays on the page instead of as attached PDFs. Documentation for each application is grouped together instead of spread across several courses, and each library is completely searchable by keyword or phrase, making it faster and easier to find what you need.
Discussion forum functionalityTo harness the power of the OCHIN collaborative, Ella includes a new discussion forum functionality for our members to connect with each other, ask questions, and share information. Users can subscribe to posts (with or without replying) and will receive a daily digest email with updates to subscribed posts.
Online training functionalityWhen the OCHIN LMS was originally configured, our organization had a very different outlook on staff and member training. With Ella, we took the opportunity to completely redesign OCHIN’s approach to “learning management.” Training content will be delivered in a way that is meaningful to the learner, designed with clear learning objectives, exercises, and competencies to evaluate knowledge retention. These improvements will be available in Ella later in 2018.
Ella was rolled out to the OCHIN Epic collaborative on January 15, 2018 alongside the current OCHIN LMS. On February 12, 2018, the OCHIN LMS will be taken offline and users will be redirected to Ella.
As a major improvement to the way OCHIN supports the learning of both its members and staff, Ella represents over two years of work to design a learning platform that will meet your needs. We can’t wait for you to meet her! We think you will like what you see.
