Enabling a Healthier Future for Every Community

OCHIN Seeks New Members to Join Our Patient Engagement Panel (PEP)

By Tiffany Prescott, Research Coordinator

OCHIN is seeking new members to join our Patient Engagement Panel (PEP). The OCHIN PEP is a group of people who are interested in research and the way it involves and impacts patients. This group meets for updates, training, socializing, and to discuss patient experiences, perspectives, and thoughts as they relate to health research topics.

Becoming a PEP member gives patients an opportunity to actively advise and guide decision makers, providers, and researchers in work to improve healthcare experiences and treatment options. PEP members share their insights and suggestions on issues such as:

  • Research questions
  • Changes to health care delivery and how it impacts patients
  • How to best share information with the general public
  • How to best recruit patients for studies
  • Health technology

Please help us spread the word about this exciting patient opportunity. If you or someone you know is interested in joining the PEP, please complete the PEP Recruitment Application.

If you have any questions or would like access to our PEP recruitment materials to help spread the word, please email our PEP Coordinators at PEP@ochin.org

More about the PEP:

  • There are three PEP meetings a year (held in February, June, and October) for members to gather for updates, training, and socializing. Meetings are held in the evening at OCHIN (1881 SW Naito Parkway, Portland, OR 97201) or via WebEx for remote attendance. Meetings last two hours, typically from 5:30-7:30 pm.
  • Opportunities to consult on individual projects or studies take place in as-needed meetings which you may attend as available and interested. Consultations may take place in person, through video conferencing, or by email. OCHIN will send notice of these opportunities as they come up; there are usually about 4-5 consultations between PEP meetings.
  • Many consultation opportunities come with some kind of financial recognition – usually about $25 – in the form of checks, direct deposit, or a gift card.
  • OCHIN may also occasionally share opportunities outside their own projects and studies – such as national consultations or comment periods that may be of interest to PEP members.
  • If you have a specific area of interest or way that you want to take part in research, the PEP coordinators are always happy to try and connect you to relevant opportunities!

PEP members should:

  • Be willing to discuss patient experiences, perspectives, and thoughts as they relate to health research topics – you never have to discuss or share information if you do not want to
  • Have internet access and the ability to attend meetings remotely – such as computer, webcam, tablet, mobile phone
  • Use email on a regular basis (at least weekly) as this is the way OCHIN shares opportunities and information with PEP members
